Why Try Juicing?
Katie and I have been asked what we think of Juicing several times. Specially after Katie posted her thoughts of that movie on Netflix “Sick, Fat & Nearly Dead” it was clear that a lot of people are intrigued by juicing in general. To tell you the truth we’ve always been sort of against it and for the following reasons:
Most people start juicing…
a) As a “cleanse” from toxins due to their usual food choices or
b) As a way to lose weight fast due to very low calorie consumption.
See the problem? Juicing in these cases becomes a “quick fix” and we know that quick fixes don’t work. They address the symptom not the cause. You don’t need to go on cleanses if you eat clean. As a matter of fact I have yet to hear of someone, that does juicing for weight loss AND eats clean most of the time. It’s usually a quick fix employed by those without the commitment required to stick to healthy eating. No judgement there, that’s just what I’ve observed.
So the question remains, why would we try Juicing? Well…
It’s not a Cleanse.
Katie and I eat clean and organic 95% of the time, sure we allow ourselves the occasional cheat meal but that’s maybe one out of 40 meals we normally do per week. So we’re not juicing as a way to cleanse our bodies.
Not Juicing for Weight Loss.
We have no problem sticking to a meal plan, as a matter of fact this is our normal. Sure, like everyone, we have challenges, cravings and sometimes we fall off the wagon, but then we get back up and carry on. That’s how we both got through our weight loss journey, by committing and sticking to a meal plan, which eventually became a lifestyle. So Weight Loss is definitely not a driving factor for us to try Juicing.
The Experience.
We want to try Juicing to experience for ourselves to be able to have an answer for you when you ask us about it. As simple as that 🙂 Same as we have with any other Nutrition approach: Low Carb, High Carb, Carb Cycling, High Fat, Low Fat, High Protein, Ketogenic Diets, Intermittent Fasting, High & Low Calorie plans, etc…We’ve tried each and every one of these that’s why we can give you our honest opinion 🙂
Because our goals are NOT related to weight loss, we’re planning on consuming our usual number of calories. That’s 4000 calories per day for me, yikes! However we will also listen to our bodies and consume our juices (and fruits and veggies) when we feel we need them and not just because. It’s also important for us to make sure all our intake is from Organic Fruits and Vegetables. Yes, you’re right…. technically Juicing means you blend everything and drink it, but we’re allowing ourselves to eat fruits and vegetables as long as they’re not cooked.
